Tempo-synced delay, free online demo

A delay's repeats fill the space between hits, which is a different tool from reverb even though both add distance. Sync it to tempo here and hear how note division changes rhythmic character.

Try it

  1. Set the delay time to 1/8 dotted, synced to tempo.
  2. Raise feedback until you hear three or four repeats clearly.
  3. Lower feedback back down until only one repeat is audible.

What to listen for

Dotted eighth delay sits between the beat and off it, which is why it reads as movement rather than an obvious echo. Feedback controls how long that movement lingers.

This tool is one part of the picture. Electronic Music Production for Beginners covers the rest.
