Oscilloscope, see the waveform live

Every waveform shape has a distinct sound, and seeing the shape makes the connection stick faster than any description. Watch the wave move as you play.

Try it

  1. Play a sine wave and watch the smooth curve, then switch to square and compare the sharp edges.
  2. Push a signal until it clips and watch the top and bottom of the wave flatten.
  3. Play two tones close in pitch together and watch the beating pattern appear.

What to listen for

Clipping isn't just loud, it's a literal flattening of the wave you can see before you even hear the harshness. The beating pattern between two close pitches is the same thing you hear as a wobble.
