EQ curve, visualized in real time

Boosting and cutting the same frequency by the same amount do not sound like opposites. See the curve move as you shape it, and hear why cutting is usually the safer first move.

Try it

  1. Boost a mid frequency (around 1kHz) by 6dB, then cut the same frequency by 6dB. Compare.
  2. Sweep a narrow boosted band slowly across the spectrum to find a harsh resonance.
  3. Once found, switch to cut and notch it out instead.

What to listen for

The boost sounds louder and can feel like an improvement even when it isn't. The cut at the same frequency and amount often sounds cleaner, not just quieter, because it removes rather than adds.
